CyberPatient (CP) is a sophisticated digital learning platform developed over six years and now in commercial sales.

Developed at UBC by the founder of Interactive Health Inc. (IHI), Dr. Karim Qayumi, CyberPatient emulates a virtual hospital with 130 patients. This provides medical students and nurses with case based, continuum of care scenarios, where they can do patient history taking, conduct physical examinations, order tests (blood, x-rays, CT scans, etc.)  and form a preliminary diagnosis. They can then prescribe medications and refer the patient to a specialist. They are prompted when they ask an incorrect question given the information received or prescribe something inappropriate. They are provided feedback at the end of the case and scored on various parameters to enhance the learning process.

The faculty supervisor can review in real time the progress the student is making, their error rate and overall performance.

The cases can be translated into 82 languages.

IHI has an MOU with the Royal College to develop CP products for Maintenance and Assessments of Competency. The IHI and Royal College are working with the National Research Council of Canada (NRC) and the Canadian Space Agency (CSA) to develop technology for support of health professionals in rural, isolated areas in Canada and around the world.
